How to Comment on the Blog

Some folks were having trouble with comments on the blog and I changed the settings so that commenting is available and as easy as possible. To comment, you click the little link at the bottom of the post that shows up in blue and says 0 Comments (or 1 comments or 2 comments etc.) That is also how you read other people's comments.

A post is signified by the big orange header that tells you the title of the post. So, we have one post titled "Welcome to Janel and Russell's Laidman family blog" and one post titled "Stop the Presses! Danny and Sylvia bought a condo!" and now we have this post titled "How to Comment on the Blog." If you want to comment or read the comments on a particular post, scroll to the bottom of that post, right before the title of the previous post and that's where you'll find the comment link. Click on it to make a comment or to read previous comments.

When you comment it will ask you for your id. If you don't know what to choose there, choose the option that says Name/URL. You don't need a URL, just type in your name, your comment and hit the post button. Your comment should show up. If you have any questions, you can always email me.

We look forward to your comments!

Stop the Presses! Dan and Sylvia bought a condo!

Well, I'm sure you've all heard already that Sylvia and Danny went to an auction and bought a condo. Russell and I motored on up to Portland to check out their new digs. All we can say is "swanky!"

We're excited that they'll have a place so close to us and we look forward to future dates when Danny and Sylvia will be "in residence". Here are a few pictures from that fateful weekend!

Danny relaxes in his new instant style furniture, while Russell flashes secret messages with his shoes...

Lucky number 35, you were good to us baby!

Although Sylvia is just a silhouette here, you can see the gorgeous view she has from her new 22nd floor bedroom.

Welcome to Janel & Russell's Laidman family blog

We have recently had several visitors to our new home in Oregon. It's been an exciting time for us because we've never had the space to host visitors before, and we are thrilled to have our family visit our home because moving away from family has been more isolating than we would like. Although we don't always have time in our busy lives to chat on the phone or sit down and pen an old fashioned letter, we are often thinking of our family and wondering what they are up to. Last night it struck me that we could keep in touch with a blog!

What is a blog? A "blog" is short for weblog, or a website log of whatever topic you choose. I'm choosing family for my weblog.

How does it work? A blog is easy to use. You just sign in to your blogger account and begin posting. Right now it's set up for Russell and Janel to post information, but if you'd like to post things to the blog too, we can set you up as members so that you have posting privileges. It would be fun if everyone wanted to post their own updates on the blog.
What kind of things do you put on a blog? Well, anything you like really. We'll start this one off with some photos of a recent trip we took to a waterfall in central Oregon.
What if I want to respond to your blog post? We hope you do! It's easy to respond to the blog posts by clicking on the comment link at the bottom of the post. Just click there and type in your comments. We would love to hear from you.

Trip to Sahalie Falls and Koosah Falls near Bend Oregon with Bryce and Wilma Wheeler (Janel's parents)

Russell and I recently took a day trip with my parents to Sisters Oregon. It's a beautiful 2 hour drive from Eugene along the scenic McKenzie river. We stopped along the way and had lunch and did a bit of hiking. The highlights of the trip were the two waterfalls we stopped at for some hiking and picture taking. The day was sunny and the forest was lush and green - a lovely outing for all of us and well worth the trip.
